Chapatti The Play SPECIAL SUNDAY MATINEE 10/9/22
Please join us for a very special event – “Chapatti”! Sunday 10/9/22 The link to purchase tickets is below
This sweet, funny and at times emotional love story comes to the Commonwealth Club by way of Dublin from playwright
Christian O’Reilly and The Michigan Irish Repertory Theatre.
Dan (David Kiley) is a retired laborer in Dublin who wards off loneliness with his beloved dog, Chapatti. He is a loner,
somewhat despondent over the passing of the love of his life a few years earlier. He meets Betty (Sarah Burcon) who is also a
loner and is, by her own admission, a bit of a “crazy cat lady” with some 19 cats. These two souls are brought together and
form a bond in part because of the love they have for their furry friends. There are laughs, maybe some tears and certainly
revelations about how leaving ourselves open to the love of people, and pets, can help us get through the rough patches.
What the critics are saying:
“…Chapatti is a warm, gentle story demonstrating that love and romance
can happen again even after many years. This wonderfully charming two-
hander is both hopeful and uplifting. Credit Christian O’ Reilly with
writing a gentle, sublime and honest script that drills home the need for
and the power of human companionship. While dogs and cats can aid us
through the lonely rough spots in our loves, there is no substitute for
tender human connections. Gaining love and romance, at any age, is the
ultimate joy we can hope for.”–Chicago Theatre Critic.
